A body of an adult man was retrieved by members of the police diving unit at Bon Accord Dam in Onderstepoort in the north of Pretoria on Thursday morning.

Lieutenant Colonel Wilson Makuwa said a drowning incident was reported to Pretoria North police yesterday shortly after 20:00.

“A body was found after allegations of illegal fishing that was reported to the police.

“Security officers noticed two men and as they approached the fishermen, the one jumped in the water and suddenly disappeared beneath the water,” Makuwa said.

The age of the deceased has not yet been identified.

The search and rescue team as well as the K9 unit was dispatched to the scene at 07:00 where they found the body more or less 150 meters from the dam wall.
