Three high school learners arrested after stabbing incident

A group of learners got involved in a heated argument inside the school premises, and later four of them were stabbed.

A stabbing incident at a high school in Simunye outside Westonaria, has lead to the arrest of three learners.

Two of the suspects are 17 years old while the third suspect is 16.

Reports indicate a confrontation started inside the school premises on September 14, and later moved outside.

According to Bekkersdal Police spokesperson Sergeant Linkie Lefakane, the learners face charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

“It remains unclear what the motive for the stabbing was and we are still investigating. The learners are part of a group and more arrests are expected to follow.”

The four learners who were stabbed sustained injuries to their upper bodies and bruises on their hands, and were taken to Simunye Clinic.

One of them was later transferred to Leratong Hospital in Mogale City for further medical care.

Randfontein Herald has approached the Gauteng Department of Education, but they are yet to comment on the matter. There is also a video of the incident in the Herald‘s possession, however, the authenticity of the video needs to be verified first.
