Police in search of 15 suspects following CIT heist in Krugersdorp

A group of armed men opened fire on a cash-in-transit vehicle until it came to a standstill and they were able to steal some of the money.

Police are on the hunt for 15 suspects who were involved in a cash-in-transit (CIT) robbery and shootout in Factoria, Krugersdorp, on Monday night.

National police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Robert Netshiunda this morning told Krugersdorp News the robbery took place at about 19:00 on the corner of Barratt Road and Louis Friedman Street.

He explained that reports indicate the armored cash truck was travelling west-bound along Barratt Road when the vehicle was approached by suspects armed with automatic rifles. They reportedly shot at the vehicle until the cash truck came to a standstill.

“Three K9 officers who were in the vicinity responded to the scene and a shootout ensued.”

The suspects then allegedly fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money. Fortunately, no one was injured and K9 members and other crime scene experts were on scene.

“Two empty money boxes were found lying along Battery and Rory Streets in Wentworth Park. Preliminary investigations have suggested that the suspects failed to open the safes during the robbery.”

The police requests anyone with information to contact their nearest police station or the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
