East Rand kidnapping ends in car crash, arrests in Krugersdorp
Four people were injured in the crash, two suspects were arrested, and the kidnapping victim was released.
A man who was hijacked and kidnapped in Kempton Park was rescued in Krugersdorp after members of the Tactical Response Team (TRT) who were in the area by chance, acted on information by hawkers that they saw a man tied up in the back of a vehicle.
Krugersdorp Police spokesperson Captain Raymond Sebonyane says a 44-year-old man was hijacked while driving his Toyota Hilux bakkie on the R21 at about 09:30 yesterday and forced into the back of a white Hyundai Tucson.
“Members of TRT in Kimberley were detached at Diepsloot and were driving towards Krugersdorp when they got information about a person tied up in the back of a vehicle from hawkers at the Pinehaven traffic lights,” says Sebonyane.
They started following the vehicle. On Albertina Sisulu Road in Levisham, Krugersdorp they tried to pull the vehicle over by turning on their siren and blue lights.
The suspects allegedly tried to speed off but collided with a white Opel Monza leaving four people injured.
Police managed to arrest a 39-year-old and a 43-year-old man and release the kidnapped and hijacked victim. The people injured in the accident were all taken to hospital for further treatment.
Sebonyane says the two suspects will appear in court soon.
