Police sergeant arrested for murder of Krugersdorp pub manager

A bouncer and pub manager were shot, allegedly by the officer after he was denied entry following an argument with his girlfriend.

A 41-year-old police sergeant of the West Rand has been arrested and charged with murder and attempted murder after he allegedly shot and killed a pub manager and wounded a bouncer in Kagiso, Krugersdorp.

The incident took place early Saturday morning and it is said the manager and bouncer were shot after the cop argued with his girlfriend.

Kagiso Police spokesperson Captain Solomon Sibiya says that Kagiso police detectives arrested the suspect in Azaadville Gardens a day after the incident.

“At about 01:30 on Saturday, the suspect arrived at the pub where he found his girlfriend. He confronted her and an argument ensued between them. The suspect then pulled the victim outside the pub premises where he started assaulting her. The bouncer noticed and tried to stop the suspect from further assaulting the victim. The victim managed to jump into her friend’s vehicle and they sped off,” Sibiya explains.

After the altercation the man then wanted to re-enter the pub but the bouncers refused. The man then left and returned a bit later, but he was once again refused entry and reportedly stood at the entrance. When the bouncer approached the entrance the suspect allegedly pulled out a firearm and fired shots at the bouncers who had started to flee.

“He followed the bouncer into the pub where he found the manager sitting on a couch. The suspect then fired shots directed at the manager,” Sibiya adds.

The manager was shot in his upper body and the bouncer was wounded in both legs. After the shooting the suspect left the scene.

“The two victims were rushed to hospital where the manager was certified dead on arrival. The bouncer is recovering in hospital and no further injuries were reported to patrons or staff.”

The suspect was later arrested and his service pistol was recovered and confiscated by Kagiso police detectives during his arrest.

The police sergeant has been charged with murder and attempted murder.
