Two men arrested near Hazyview for murder of traffic officer

The Hawks say suspects were recently arrested for the murder of a traffic officer, thanks to information supplied by the public.

Two suspects, both aged 35, have been arrested for the murder of chief traffic officer Judas Chiloane (60) in Mpumalanga.

Chiloane was murdered on Saturday. The Hawks apprehended the suspects in Shabalala Trust near Hazyview on Monday.

The Mpumalanga spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi, said the suspects had been traced thanks to information received from the public.

“The traffic officer was with his lady friend. They were parked between Hazyview and Graskop when some armed intruders emerged from the bushes. They took his firearm, shot him dead and fled,” she said.

“The friend called for help. Chiloane was declared dead on the scene when the police arrived.

“Further investigation led the team to one of the suspect’s houses where a search was conducted. A pistol with a serial number obliterated was found and seized.”

Sekgotodi said the suspects would be taken to court as soon as the preliminary investigation was completed.
