Brakpan detective back in court for assaulting wife

Social media is abuzz with photos of a woman who was reportedly assaulted by her husband who is employed at Brakpan SAPS.

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has recently noted images on social media of a woman who was assaulted and beaten to a pulp, allegedly by her partner.

According to social media posts, the woman was refused assistance by both SAPS and Ipid. The woman’s husband is a detective based at the Brakpan SAPS.

In a statement, Ipid clarified the woman was previously assaulted by her partner and the matter was investigated by the directorate.

The officer was arrested but was on August 2, 2022 subsequently released on bail by the Protea Magistrate’s Court. The bail conditions were that he should not be in contact with the victim.

The woman tried to withdraw the case but the request was declined by the state as they feel they have a strong case and that it is important to seek justice in cases of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF).

The accused officer will appear in court again on March 27.

Based on the latest images on social media, Ipid has contacted the victim and will ensure that she opens another case against her partner.

The new information will be used to apply to court to revoke his bail. GBVF is a scourge in the country and therefore, Ipid urges victims of GBVF not to withdraw cases.
