Former Victor Khanye Local Municipality speaker and driver critical after drive-by shooting

It is alleged that the occupants of a speeding vehicle opened fire on the vehicles of the speaker and one of his bodyguards.

The former speaker of the Victor Khanye Local Municipality, Khaya Segone, and his driver and bodyguard, Loti Mgidi, have been shot.

Delmas SAPS were called yesterday at about 21:30 to the Bernice Samuel Hospital in Mpumalanga.

They found Segone and Mgidi admitted to hospital with gunshot wounds.

Another bodyguard, Thubani Khoza, with a white Nissan NP200, was escorting Segone and Migidi, driving a white Toyota Avanza, when they came under fire.

Unknown occupants of a speeding white Toyota Yaris apparently started shooting at the vehicles, critically wounding Segone and Mgidi.

Khoza was unharmed.

The rear window of the bodyguard’s bakkie has been shot out.

Segone and Mgidi are both still in critical condition.

Twenty-three rifle cartridges and one pistol cartridge were found on the scene of the shooting that occurred in Delpark, Delmas.

According to Captain Carla Hartley, media spokesperson for the Delmas Police, the shooters are unknown and still at large.
