Manhunt for suspect who fled scene of deadly KZN shooting

Two men were arrested, two others killed, while another evaded arrest after a shootout with police in Isipingo.

Police in Isipingo south of Durban have launched a manhunt for a suspect who fled the scene following a deadly shooting with police on Monday afternoon.

According to KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, police were conducting crime prevention duties on the Mangosuthu Highway when they spotted a suspicious vehicle with five occupants inside. Police signalled for the driver to stop.

“The suspects defied police’s instructions and drove off while opening fire at the police. The police officers returned fire, and a shootout [and] high-speed chase ensued. The driver of the suspects’ vehicle lost control of the vehicle and collided with a street light on Willcox Road in Isipingo,” explains Netshiunda.

Two of the suspects were declared dead on the scene after they were found to have sustained fatal injuries.

“Two more suspects were arrested whereas police are hot on the heels of the fifth suspect, who evaded police,” he adds.

A case of attempted murder and an inquest is being investigated by police, and they are confident that the suspect who fled the scene, will be found.
