A heated argument between colleagues resulted in a man’s death and the arrest of the suspect five days later.
A timely tip-off from an anonymous source resulted in the apprehension of a murder suspect (35) in Tongaat, north of Durban, yesterday.
Upon receiving the tip-off, Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) Tongaat Operations Centre dispatched officers to Walter Reid Road, ultimately leading to the suspect’s arrest.
The anonymous caller provided explicit details about the whereabouts and appearance of the wanted individual, who was sought in connection with the murder of a colleague.
A 28-year-old Zimbabwean man was killed at a tyre fitment centre on Gopalall Hurbans Road on September 21, reportedly after a workplace dispute.
A shortened spear, possibly the murder weapon, was recovered from the suspect’s possessions during his apprehension.
Rusa alleges that in an interview with reaction officers, the 35-year-old suspect admitted to stabbing his colleague during a heated argument. He claimed the deceased had subjected him to continuous ridicule in the workplace, says Rusa, and the fatal dispute erupted over a lunchtime incident.
The suspect has been arrested and was being processed at the time of publishing.
