No load-shedding for the bulk of Saturday and Sunday

Eskom made Friday a little brighter for South Africans with the news that the power will remain on for large parts of the weekend.

Due to sustained improved performance of generation availability and anticipated lower demand over the weekend, South Africans will not have daytime load-shedding tomorrow and Sunday.

Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 16:00 until 05:00 on both days, but the power will remain on from 05:00 until 16:00.

This afternoon and tonight’s schedule remains unchanged, however, with stage 3 load-shedding from 16:00 today until 05:00 on Saturday.

Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes to the load-shedding schedule.

Breakdowns are currently at 14 266MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5 388MW.

Over the past 24 hours, four generating units – at Arnot, Duvha, Ingula and Vanderkloof power stations – were taken offline for repairs. In the same period, a generating unit at Hendrina Power Station was returned to service.
