Gauteng family tied up during home invasion

Three armed men kept a family hostage for four hours, while ransacking their home.

A Doornpoort, Pretoria, family underwent a nightmare ordeal when they were tied up for four hours and robbed of their valuables on Wednesday.

According to the local CPF, this was the second such incident in recent weeks.

According to police spokesperson Warrant Officer Johann van Dyk, the victims were sleeping when three armed men entered their home.

“They pointed firearms at the father and instructed him to remain quiet.

“The father and his children were then tied up,” says Van Dyk.

The men wanted to gain entry to the safe but had to force it open because the battery had died.

“They ransacked the home, taking TVs, laptops, cellular phones, jewellery, and bank cards.

“Four hours later, the suspects fled the scene. No shots were fired and no one was injured,” says Van Dyk.

According to Pretoria North CPF, the father managed to untie himself and call for help.

Cobie Jansen, the Pretoria North Sector 3 CPF chairperson, says the call came through at 03:45.

He adds that this is one of many robberies that have taken place in the area recently.

“Just last week, a father found his sons tied up after they were robbed of their valuables,” he confirms.
