Man gunned down in Randfontein: Police seek 3 suspects

A 31-year-old man was shot and killed while seated in his Toyota Quantum, and a manhunt is underway to find his killers.

Police are searching for three gunmen who shot and killed a man inside his minibus at about 18:00 in Toekomsrus, Randfontein, on Tuesday.

The man has since been identified as 31-year-old Harry Ashley and a case of murder is being investigated.

According to a statement by the Mohlakeng Police, the victim was in his Toyota Quantum when he was approached by three gunmen.

“The suspects opened fire, subsequently shooting the victim multiple times while he sat in his vehicle. Afterward, the gunmen fled the scene as the victim was left in his vehicle. The police claimed that the victim was declared dead when they arrived on the scene. The motive for the killing cannot be confirmed at this stage,” says Lieutenant Colonel Mavela Masondo.

Police also announced a manhunt for the gunmen has been launched, and appealed to anyone who might have information that can assist in the investigation.
