Court sentences man who murdered and raped Johannesburg teen

An 18-year-old from South Hills was killed by a man responsible for maintenance work at the complex she lived in.

More than four years after Silindile Kunene (18) was raped and murdered on March 6, 2019, at her home in the Fever-Tree Complex in South Hills, Johannesburg, Osborne Lorenzo Bors has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for his crimes.

Magistrate Vele from the Booysens Magistrate’s Court on Moonday sentenced Bors for two counts of murder and sexual assault.

Bors was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment for count one, 20 years for count two and five years for count three. Counts two and three will run concurrently.

Silindile was found dead by her father, Thembalakhe Dlamuka, on the spare bedroom floor at about 18:00 on the day.

The Moffat View police apprehended Bors, responsible for maintenance in the complex, the next day (March 7, 2019) while on duty at the same complex.

Silindile was home alone when the incident happened. Her mother, Hlengiwe, said her daughter was new to the area, having arrived two months earlier from KZN. She barely knew people in the area.
