Armed gang robs congregants and pastor at KZN church
Police are searching for robbers who not only took worshippers’ possessions, but also stole one vehicle and attempted to hijack another.
Four gunmen robbed a pastor and his congregation at a Merebank church in KZN on Wednesday.
According to PT Alarms and Security, four armed robbers demanded valuables from the pastor and other members of the church.
The men also demanded the keys to a Hilux parked at the church, which they used to escape.
Spokesperson for PT Alarms and Security Dhevan Govindasamy says in their bid to flee, the armed men attempted to hijack another church member who drove in while the robbery was in progress, but he managed to escape with no injuries.
“The [robbers] shattered his driver’s side window with the butt of a firearm while he was reversing to drive off. It is believed the men arrived in a charcoal-grey Toyota Yaris.
“The PT Alarms Chatsworth ambassador contacted the tracking company for the stolen vehicle, but it was discovered the [robbers] jammed the signal,” Govindsamy says.
Wentworth police are investigating.
