Boinehelo Lefefa, the 43-year-old Sibanye-Stillwater employee accused of brutally killing his colleague in Randfontein, Gauteng, has abandoned his bail application.

Lefefa made his third appearance in the Westonaria Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Police officers escorted Lefefa to the dock where he stood silently and avoided eye contact with the magistrate.

Lefefa’s legal representative then requested to speak to him before delivering comment. Afterwards, the legal representative stated that Lefefa wanted to abandon bail.

The magistrate accepted the request.

He is expected to appear in court again on January 30 next year.

Lefefa faces a charge of premeditated murder in connection with the fatal stabbing of his colleague that occurred on November 9.

According to Gauteng National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane, the horrific incident happened in front of onlookers at the Leseding Hostel.

She says the accused stabbed the deceased several times, cut open his stomach, and tried to cut off his head. He then took cellphone photos and videos posing with the deceased.
