Load-shedding to alternate between stages 4 and 3 from midday
South Africans can expect some load-shedding relief as stage 6 will be reduced to stage 4 from 12:00 today, and will alternate between stages 4 and 3 until Thursday.
Eskom has announced that load-shedding will be reduced to stage 4 from noon until 05:00 tomorrow.
The power utility says the implementation of stage 6 load-shedding over the past few days has enabled the replenishment of emergency reserves at its pumped storage and open cycle gas turbine power stations.
Load-shedding stages until Thursday are as follows:
- Stage 4: 12:00 today until 05:00 on Monday
- Stage 3: 05:00 on Monday until 16:00 on Monday
- Stage 4: 16:00 on Monday until 05:00 on Tuesday
This pattern will be repeated daily until Thursday.
Eskom will closely monitor the power system and communicate any changes.
Unplanned outages are currently at 15 386MW of generating capacity, while the capacity out of service for planned maintenance is 5 617MW.
Approximately 2 500MW of generating capacity is anticipated to return to service by Tuesday evening.
Eskom teams are working tirelessly to ensure that additional generating units are returned to service as soon as possible.
Eskom’s load forecast for the evening peak demand is 25 989MW.
