3 arrested in Durban after community tip-off
The men – aged 19, 23 and 56 – claim they are from Delft in Cape Town, and police believe they were in KZN to execute a hit.
SAPS has attributed the nabbing of three suspects in Sydenham, Durban, to a good relationship between the police and the community, after the police responded to a tip-off that led to an arrest of three men at a lodge on Quarry Road West in Sydenham yesterday afternoon.
The police responded to an alert of a suspected hijacked vehicle, which was spotted at the lodge, and upon arrival, they found two vehicles. One of them was reported hijacked in Sydenham a fortnight ago, while the other was hijacked in Newlands recently.
Upon further search of the premises, three men, aged 19, 23 and 56, were found inside a room in possession of four firearms, nine fully loaded magazines, eight bullet-resistant vests and an empty rifle bag.
The suspects, who claim to be from Delft in Cape Town, were arrested, and investigations into their possible mission are underway.
With Sydenham known for persistent drug turf wars, police believe the suspects, who booked into the lodge from Wednesday and were to check out tomorrow, could have been in the area to execute a hit.
