Police arrest Mpumalanga woman who ‘faked’ being hijacked

Her husband and another man will appear alongside her in court.

A woman was arrested in Secunda yesterday, December 21, for allegedly opening a false hijacking case.

According to police, the woman claimed that she had been hijacked at about 04:00 on December 18 while on her way to a petrol station.

She told the police that men in a silver VW Polo stopped her and then forced her out of her vehicle, a red Mazda CX3, at gunpoint.

The woman opened a case at Secunda Police Station, but during the cops’ investigation, they noticed things were not adding up.

The police followed up on information and recovered the vehicle at a house in Secunda where it was being stripped.

Police believe that the woman colluded with the hijackers to stage a false hijacking.

She was arrested along with her husband and another man. The trio is expected to appear in the Secunda Magistrate’s Court today.
