Middelburg hospital’s medication found in car’s boot: Doctor in court
A doctor will appear in court today after being caught trying to leave a hospital with medication and hospital equipment in her possession.
A 31-year-old female medical doctor spent a weekend behind bars in Middelburg for allegedly stealing medication and medical equipment estimated at R50 000.
The doctor found herself on the wrong side of the law when her vehicle was searched by security personnel while departing from a government hospital on Friday at about 16:45.
Reports indicate that numerous medications and medical equipment were found concealed in the boot. The doctor could not explain why the government’s properties were in her car.
Police were summoned to the scene and the doctor was arrested. She is expected to appear in the Middelburg Magistrate’s Court today.
The Mpumalanga police commissioner, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela, expressed admiration for the excellent job done by the hospital’s security officer.
“The security officer performed duties without fear or favour,” concluded Manamela.
