Zulu king fumes over termination of his praise singer’s contract

The imbongi (praise singer) of the Zulu king has been on the KZN Office of the Premier's payroll for several years.

Zulu King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has accused the KZN Office of the Premier of disrespecting him as ruler of the Zulu nation.

In a media statement released by the king’s prime minister, Thulasizwe Buthelezi, yesterday, His Majesty cited the department’s decision to ‘terminate the employment contract of his imbongi (praise singer)’ as an act of disrespect to the Zulu Royal House.

The king’s imbongi, Buzetsheni Mdletshe, whose role, among others, was to usher in His Majesty during traditional ceremonies, has been on the Premier Department’s payroll for several years.
