A 24-year-old road rage survivor drove himself to the hospital with part of his forehead hanging over his eye.
The Pietermaritzburg man, who asked not to be named as he fears for his life, said all he wanted to do was get a haircut before a family birthday dinner on Tuesday when he was brutally attacked. Recalling the incident, he said he wanted to look nice for supper as he was celebrating his birthday.
“I went to get a haircut. While parking, the suspect’s car was coming towards me but I wasn’t close to him. He, however, started swearing at me. I apologised and he drove off.
“The suspect then stopped his car in the middle of the road and came towards me. I then moved off the road and stood on the pavement. I apologised again and he told me to shut up
“While saying that, he pulled out a gun and started assaulting me with it. I managed to get the gun [which fell] on the floor away from him,” said the young man.
He added that the suspect then picked up a tree branch from nearby and assaulted him with it.
