Woman allegedly uses spade to kill toddler during Polokwane lovers’ tiff

A woman has been arrested for allegedly killing a child during an argument with her boyfriend and his wife.

A 20-year-old Moremadi Park woman is expected to appear before the Mankweng Magistrate’s Court today on a charge of murder and attempted murder following a violent love triangle tiff on Wednesday night.

According to police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, when Mankweng police arrived at a house in the area, a male foreign national led them to a three-year-old girl who was on a bed with a severe wound to the upper body.

The child was certified dead on the scene by emergency services.

Ledwaba says the suspect allegedly fought with the man’s 24-year-old wife, who is the child’s mother.

During the fight, the suspect, who is said to be the man’s girlfriend, allegedly hit the child with a spade, which led to her death.

The suspect then allegedly attacked the child’s mother, using boiling water.

The woman sustained severe burn wounds and was transported to a local hospital.

The suspect was arrested at the scene.

Police investigations are underway.
