Foiled CIT robbery: 4 arrested after attempting to rob cash van in eMalahleni

A high-speed car chase led to the arrest of four CIT suspects in eMalahleni yesterday.

Four suspects were arrested after attempting a CIT robbery in the eMalahleni area yesterday.

The suspects, aged between 30 and 49, were arrested on the R545 in Vosman as they were allegedly attempting to rob a cash van, said Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, acting provincial police commissioner in Mpumalanga.

“The members were able to intervene and prevented the attack on the security cash truck. The suspects then fled the scene in several other vehicles.

“A high-speed chase ensued, with law enforcement agencies successfully stopping the suspects in the Vosman policing area,” Mkhwanazi explained.

He added that during the arrest, the suspects were found in possession of three AK-47 rifles with six magazines, 134 live ammunition, one 9mm pistol with two magazines, and 27 live ammunition.

“The suspects will face multiple charges, including possession of prohibited firearms, possession of presumed stolen vehicle, and conspiracy to commit a robbery,” Mkhwanazi said.
