Man forced to drink acid: Mom and man appear in Ladysmith court

A man and woman appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today on attempted murder charges after allegedly forcing a man to drink acid.

A man and a woman appeared in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today, facing serious charges of attempted murder.

The accused individuals are Msizi Mbhele and Nontobeko Portia Ngema, who is also known as ‘Sindi’.

It is alleged that the two attempted to take the life of Sindi’s 26-year-old son last weekend by forcing him to drink acid.

The nature of the duo’s relationship is unclear at this stage. They were apprehended in Ladysmith on Sunday.

Today’s court proceedings saw the case postponed until next Tuesday and Wednesday, where formal bail applications will be addressed.
