KZN municipality gives Grey’s Hospital 3 hours to pay R6m account
A hospital faces having its electricity disconnected if an outstanding account is not paid.
KZN’s Msunduzi Local Municipality’s electricity department has given Grey’s Hospital three hours to pay about R6m or face disconnection.
A convoy of electricity vehicles, accompanied by acting city manager Nelly Ngcobo, descended on the hospital this morning.
Ngcobo says it is unfair that the city is blamed for not having money while consumers are not paying for services rendered.
“We’re not fighting with anyone. We’re saying let’s work together to ensure that our services are not disrupted,” says Ngcobo.
She says they would also be going to areas where vagrants are stealing water in various areas of the city, including the corner of the Natalia building.
The Witness understands that the hospital owes the municipality R6m.
After waiting for answers as to whether the money will be paid, the municipal vehicles left for the Natalia building.
Ngcobo says the hospital directed them to the department as it had failed to process the payment.
The Witness will publish more information as it becomes available.
