Girl (9) killed in Ekurhuleni horror crash: Soccer star hands himself over to police
Metro police officers found bottles of alcohol, a powder suspected to be cocaine and ‘weed edibles’ in a vehicle following a crash that claimed a child’s life yesterday.
The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) has confirmed that a Premier Soccer League player from Sekhukhune United has handed himself over to police following a head-on collision in which a nine-year-old was killed yesterday morning.
The crash, between two vehicles, happened on Andrew Mapheto Road in Tembisa, Ekurhuleni.
A woman was driving her nine-year-old daughter and a 13-year-old child to school when the head-on collision occurred.
The nine-year-old girl tragically died and was declared dead on the scene, while the mother and 13-year-old sustained serious injuries and were transported to Tembisa Tertiary Hospital for treatment.
It is alleged that the other driver fled the scene following the collision.
Thabiso Makgatho, media liaison officer for the EMPD, shared details about the crash.
“When EMPD officers arrived at the scene they found four bottles of potent alcohol, a powder suspected to be cocaine and ‘weed edibles’ in the vehicle,” he said.

A case of culpable homicide, reckless and negligent driving, and fleeing the scene of an accident has been opened.
