Ramaphosa on Trump win: I look forward to continuing close partnership

World leaders and political figures have congratulated Donald Trump on once again being elected as the president of the US. Here are some of their reactions.

Donald Trump was elected as the 47th president of the United States on Wednesday.

The news was confirmed by several US news agencies, including the New York Times, CNN and ABC News.

Trump managed to garner more than the 270 electoral votes needed to win the presidency, clinching at least four of the seven swing states, including Pennsylvania, Georgia, North Carolina and Wisconsin.

The Republican Party also managed to take control of the US Senate.

Trump is only the second president in American history to be voted back into office – he was voted out and replaced by former president Joe Biden in 2020.

President Cyril Ramaphosa congratulated Trump in an X post.

“I look forward to continuing the close and mutually beneficial partnership between our two nations across all domains of our co-operation.

“In the global arena, we look forward to our presidency of the G20 in 2025, where we will work closely with the US who will succeed us in the G20 Presidency in 2026.”
