Video: 6-year-old among 3 injured in Pretoria tavern shooting incident
A security guard was arrested after an Eastwood Tavern shooting left two adults and a child injured.
Two adults and a child were injured in a shooting at Eastwood Tavern yesterday afternoon, requiring urgent medical attention.
Pretoria Rekord reports that according to police, a suspect has been arrested and is expected to appear in the Pretoria Central Magistrate’s Court soon.
Gauteng police spokesperson Mavela Masondo said that at about 19:00, a group of football supporters arrived at the tavern’s parking lot in two Toyota Quantums after attending a CAF Champions League match at Loftus Versfeld Stadium.
Masondo said they were allegedly playing loud music from one of the vehicles when a security officer armed with a rifle approached them.
“The security guard ordered them to lower the music, and a scuffle ensued. The guard pepper-sprayed some of them, and when attacked, he fired several shots,” said Masondo.
Masondo added that two adult men and a six-year-old child sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital to receive medical attention.
One man was shot in the right thigh, another in the right leg, and the child, who was sitting inside one of the Quantums, was injured in the left arm.
“The police responded and arrested the suspect on the scene and charged him with attempted murder,” said Masondo.
