Eastern Cape Transport and Community Safety MEC Xolile Nqatha has expressed deep sadness and sorrow over the horrific crash that claimed 14 lives when a SUV and a minibus taxi collided head-on on the N9 between Graaff-Reinet and Middelburg early yesterday morning.

Initially, all six occupants in the Mazda CX5 and seven passengers in the minibus were pronounced dead at the scene. The latest death was confirmed this morning.

The cause of the crash is still unknown and under investigation.

On behalf of the provincial government, Nqatha expressed his sincere condolences to the grieving families and wishes a speedy recovery to the injured passengers.

Nqatha continues to urge motorists to drive cautiously and adhere to the rules of the road.
