5 hacked to death in KZN: Police searching for killers

Numerous men who were allegedly kidnapped from their homes last night were found dead this morning.

A manhunt is underway in KZN after five men were hacked to death, allegedly with a bush knife, in the Bambayi area of Inanda, north-west of Durban.

According to an article published by The Witness, police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says the men, who were allegedly kidnapped from their homes in Bambayi at around midnight, were found dead this morning.

“Information at the police’s disposal at this stage suggests that the victims, aged between 19 and 26, were allegedly kidnapped from their homes in Bambayi around midnight… Their bodies were discovered just after 06:30, with multiple injuries. One victim’s arm was chopped off,” says Netshiunda.

He says police responded to reports of multiple murders and, when they arrived at the scenes, three bodies were found at a sports ground, near a school, and two bodies were found at another field about 1km away from the first crime scene.

Netshiunda confirmed that a ‘massive’ manhunt has been launched to track down those responsible for the murders.

He says the motive for the killings is unknown and police are appealing to anyone who might have information to contact their nearest police station or call Crime Stop at 08600 10111.
