Watch: Mpumalanga court to deliver judgment in 2022 municipal shooting case
The man accused of murdering a municipal worker is due to again appear in court on Friday for judgment.
The Middelburg High Court was buzzing with municipal workers who came in their numbers to hear the court deliver judgment in the Tshepo Maseko murder trial.
Maseko was killed on August 17, 2022, during protests at the Steve Tshwete Municipality in Middelburg, Mpumalanga.
According to an article published by Middelburg Observer, Acting Judge GD Herman said that while he was deliberating on his judgment, he looked at the video footage that was played in court numerous times.
Herman, however, observed a number of events in the video that he felt must be addressed in court.
The specific video footage the judge was talking about was taken near the guard room at the civic centre at the time of the fatal shootings.
At the time, Nqubeko Bright Mchunu was deployed by PPP Protection and Security to protect Steve Tshwete acting municipal manager Thokozile Zulu and municipal infrastructure against striking workers who were demanding that their salary grades be increased.
Mchunu was arrested on August 18, 2022, following an altercation with striking municipal workers.
He allegedly killed municipal worker Tshepo Maseko and injured three others.
During the court proceedings today, video footage showed Mchunu holding a rifle, facing Maseko, who was holding his cellphone recording the scene.

Meanwhile, another municipal worker was on the stairs leading to the guard room where other security guards were.
The video then allegedly shows Mchunu shooting at Maseko.
Mchunu agreed to testify on what was seen in the footage, with the testimony added as evidence to the case.
The matter was postponed to Friday for judgment.
