Watch: Fuel tanker and ammunition truck on fire after N1 crash – Road closed

Traffic is being diverted from the N1 following a fatal crash near Pienaarsrivier that resulted in a fuel tanker catching fire.

The N1 between Polokwane and Pretoria is closed following a fatal collision near Pienaarsrivier this morning.

According to an article published by Polokwane Review, unconfirmed reports suggest a truck, a fuel tanker and a bus collided, resulting in the tanker catching fire.

Middelburg Observer reports that voice messages shared on Traffic Alert and Spikings Alzu to N12 Petroport said one of the trucks that is on fire was transporting ammunition.

Emergency services are still battling the blaze.

Reports indicate multiple fatalities, but the Limpopo Department of Transport has yet to confirm the exact number.

Traffic diversions

  • Northbound traffic: Diverted onto the R101 from the Carousel toll plaza.
  • Southbound traffic: Redirected to the R101 before Pienaarsrivier.
Google Maps shows a total road closure of the N1 South following a fatal crash.

 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
