KZN woman in court in connection with pensioner’s murder
A woman is accused of murdering a pensioner who sustained multiple injuries, including broken ribs and shoulder blades, before he died.
A Northdale, KZN, family is demanding justice for their father, who was assaulted in his home last month and later died in hospital.
The Witness reports that Shaik Khan, a pensioner, sustained multiple injuries, including broken ribs and shoulder blades, and a black eye.
Yesterday, Trisha Perumal, a woman who rented a room in the same house as Khan, appeared in court charged with his murder.
She was unable to apply for bail as the investigating officer had submitted an incomplete affidavit. However, the prosecutor indicated that bail was being opposed. “She is a flight risk as she rents and doesn’t have a permanent address,” reads the affidavit.
The matter was adjourned to April 24 to allow the officer to complete the affidavit properly.
Khan’s daughter, Nadia Allie, says the family is devastated, especially as they were not informed when he was hospitalised.
“We only found out what had happened after he died. The accused’s husband went to a relative’s house to tell them that my dad might be at the morgue.”
Allie says her father’s ID and social grant card were missing. A group of relatives and close friends attended court, calling for justice for Khan and opposing bail for Perumal.
