Eduan Terblanche (53), who stands accused of murdering Stacey van Heerden (49) at the Gleneagles Hotel in Mooi River, KZN, is expected to formally apply for bail at the Mooi River Magistrate’s Court today.

The Witness reports that Terblanche made a brief appearance in court yesterday, during which he applied for legal aid representation.

According to the charge sheet, he faces charges of murder and defeating or obstructing the course of justice following an incident last Wednesday.

The case was postponed to verify a new residential address, as the state said that his current listed address, the Gleneagles Hotel, is also the address of a witness in the case.

The legal aid attorney also requested additional time to consult with the accused.

The state said it intends to oppose bail.

The charge sheet alleges that Terblanche unlawfully and intentionally killed Van Heerden, with who he was in a domestic relationship.

He then allegedly attempted to defeat the ends of justice by setting fire to the hotel room while Van Heerden was still inside.
