Two foreign nationals are among five suspects arrested in Volksrust, Mpumalanga, on Friday, for dealing in drugs.

Ridge Times reports that Lieutenant Colonel Magonseni Nkosi, spokesperson for the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) in Mpumalanga, says the Hawks Secunda-based Serious Organised Crime Investigation closely monitored the suspects and then, in partnership with Standerton K9 and two private security companies, executed a search warrant.

“A disruptive operation was conducted in one of the houses in Volksrust. A 30-year-old undocumented Nigerian was busted with mandrax, crystal meth and two weighing scales.”

Nkosi explains that further investigation led the team to a second address where more mandrax and crystal meth were found. Another undocumented Nigerian national (43) was arrested for dealing in drugs.

“The team moved on to a third house where three South Africans, aged between 33 and 43 years, were nabbed with mandrax and crystal meth.”

Nkosi says the estimated value of the recovered drugs is R305 000.

The arrested people are expected to appear in the Volksrust Magistrate’s Court today.

The Hawks will rope in the Department of Home Affairs to further investigate the Contravention of the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

The provincial head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Major General Nico Gerber, says drugs are a problem in the area.

The Hawks have intensified their actions against this scourge. He commended the team for their continued successes in the fight against drug syndicates.

“The Hawks will intensify their operations and appeal to the community to provide us with information on drug dealing. All information will be dealt with confidentially,” he says.
