Mob burns man after fatal stabbing of shop owner in Ekurhuleni

Police have opened two murder cases and warned residents against mob justice as investigations into two brutal killings continue.

Tensions boiled over in Chris Hani in Daveyton, Ekurhuleni, when residents allegedly burnt to death a 30-year-old man accused of fatally stabbing a fellow business owner on Monday.

Benoni City Times reports that, according to Ekurhuleni SAPS spokesperson Captain Neldah Sekgobela, the incident happened at 07:00 on Vivian Drive.

“The police received a complaint of murder and mob justice. Upon arrival, they found a 28-year-old man with stab wounds to the upper body,” says Sekgobela.

The victim was identified as Peter Mancisa, who reportedly operated a kota business in the area.

“Eyewitnesses claim Mandisizwe Mbadamane (30), also a kota vendor from Chris Hani, was seen stabbing Mancisa with a knife.”

Community members allegedly chased Mbadamane, assaulted him and later set him alight using a tyre. He was declared dead on the scene.

Reports suggest the two deceased had a long-standing conflict.

Mbadamane was allegedly known for harassing Mancisa, and earlier this year, Mancisa reportedly opened a case of housebreaking, theft and possession of suspected stolen goods against him after Mancisa’s fridge was stolen.

Sekgobela confirmed there were no arrests in connection with the mob justice killing, but two cases of murder have been opened.

“Members of the community are urged not to take the law into their hands and allow the police to deal with criminal matters,” she said.
