Young man fatally stabbed in Meyerton, suspect in custody

A man accused of murder was chased by community members and ultimately caught at the police station where he sought refuge.

Police have arrested a man following a fatal stabbing in Meyerton yesterday.

According to Vaalweekblad, the incident occurred at about 17:30 at the corner of Junius and Loch streets.

The victim, a young adult, was reportedly carrying a plastic bag containing recycling tins when he was confronted by the suspect.

A witness said the suspect was seen waving a knife and a fibre-plastic stick at the victim.

The victim allegedly produced a knife in self-defence, at which point he was stabbed, allegedly by the suspect.

The victim fell and the suspect fled the scene.

Community members pursued the suspect until he sought refuge at the police station, where he was arrested.

During the chase, the suspect sustained minor injuries and was treated at the station.

Local police spokesperson Nompumelelo Zazini confirmed that a murder case is being investigated.
