Durban metro police officer among 2 killed in KZN shooting
Police have launched an investigation after two men, including a metro police officer, were gunned down in a deadly early-morning shooting at Durban’s Blue Lagoon.
Two men were fatally shot at the crack of dawn at Blue Lagoon this morning, one a Durban Metro Police officer who succumbed to his injuries upon arrival at a local hospital, Berea Mail reports.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson Garrith Jameison said the incident happened around 02:30. He said they were alerted to the incident via numerous calls which reported a shooting incident near the public pools.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find SAPS and Metro Police already in attendance and were immediately shown to where two men were found. A quick assessment was done and both men were found to have multiple gunshot wounds to their body,” said Jamieson.
He said one man believed to be in his 30s showed no signs of life and was declared dead on the scene.
“A second male believed to be a metro police officer, also in his 30s, was found in a critical condition,” said Jamieson. “Advanced Life Support Paramedics worked to resuscitate the man on scene before rushing him to a nearby hospital. Unfortunately, a short while after arriving at the hospital, the patient went into a state of cardiac arrest and despite all attempts to save the man, he was declared deceased.”
He said the exact events leading up to the shooting are unknown and that the SAPS and Metro Police will investigate further.
