Bodies of 3 flood victims found after river surge sweeps prayer group away near Middelburg

Search efforts have come to an end after the bodies of the three people, who were swept away by a raging river, have been found.

A third body has been recovered after six people were swept away by the raging Klein Olifants River, near the train bridge on the old-Belfast road, yesterday, after a sluice at the Middelburg Dam was opened.

The surge in water caught the group off guard.

Initially, two bodies were recovered this morning.

Middelburg Observer reports that the third body has now also been found.

Three others were rescued from the raging floodwaters yesterday.

Police K9 units and divers arrived at the scene early today, launching a wide-scale search. The discovery of the third body brings an end to the search and rescue operations.
