Flies and foul odour lead to discovery of women’s bodies in Mbombela
SAPS has activated a 72-hour plan and is appealing for public assistance after two half-naked women were found murdered in a house.
SAPS made a shocking discovery yesterday at around 16:30, when they found the lifeless bodies of two women at a home in KaMagugu in Mpumalanga.
According to reports, residents became concerned after being unable to reach their neighbours by phone.
Lowvelder reports that they were also aware of a foul smell and an inundation of flies around the house.
When SAPS arrived, the house was locked, and there was no sign of forced entry. Mbombela Disaster Management was then summoned to assist in unlocking the door.
The house appeared to be ransacked, and the two women, Eunice Mahlodi (64) and Eugenia Dineo Masuku (20), were both found half naked. Mahlodi was found on the living room floor, face-up, with blood on the back of her head.
Masuku was found face down, with her hands tied behind her back, in her bedroom, with visible bloodstains. She also had a charger cable tied around her neck, which police suspect could have been used to strangle her.
Upon further examination, police noticed that their cellphones were missing but the TV had been left behind.
The two victims were certified dead by emergency medical services, and it was confirmed that their bodies were found in an early stage of decomposition.
A case with two counts of murder has been opened, and a team of experts in the investigation field has been established under the leadership of the acting provincial commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General Dr Zeph Mkhwanazi, to probe this horrific incident. A 72-hour plan has been activated with all role players involved.
Circumstances surrounding this incident are still under investigation, and the police are appealing to members of the public for information that may assist in apprehending the perpetrator(s).
