Video: Police probe firearm incident allegedly involving Bitou deputy mayor

Charges have been laid after a firearm incident, allegedly involving Bitou Deputy Mayor Nokuzola Kolwapi, in Kwanokuthula.

Charges relating to the discharging of a firearm and the pointing of a firearm, allegedly involving Bitou Deputy Mayor Nokuzola Kolwapi, have been laid at Kwanokuthula Police Station.

Knysna-Plett Herald reports that a video, which went viral, shows a woman, allegedly Kolwapi, discharging a handgun at 10 Sajini Street in Kwanokuthula, Plettenberg Bay.

The incident allegedly occurred during Mgidi celebrations for her son, Tsepiso Martin (18), who matriculated this year.

According to community members, Bitou Mayor Jessica Kamkam and Speaker Mavis Busakwe attended the celebrations.

Two cases of discharging a firearm in public and pointing of a firearm, as well as reckless endangerment charges, are expected to be added to the complaint.

Southern Cape SAPS media spokesperson Warrant Officer Christopher Spies confirmed that Kwanokuthula detectives are investigating a case of pointing of a firearm following an alleged incident at Sajini Street, Kwanokuthula, yesterday at about 10:30.

He said that, according to reports available, Kwanokuthula police members visited a premises after a video of the incident was circulated on social media.

“Investigation into this incident is at an early stage and no arrests has been made yet. SAPS is not in a position to divulge particulars of individuals involved at this stage,” said Spies.

Requests for comment have been sent to Kolwapi, Kamkam and Busakwe but none were received at the time of publishing.
