1 week on: Search continues for Krugersdorp teen in Mozambique

Today marks a week since Krugersdorp teen Rikus Kylander went missing during a snorkelling trip in Mozambique as search efforts continue.

Rikus Kylander from Krugersdorp has been missing for a week following his disappearance during a snorkelling excursion in Mozambique last Thursday.

Krugersdorp News reports that Renegades Search and Rescue spokesperson Dawn Gounden confirmed yesterday that the search continues despite challenging conditions.

She said unfavourable weather has affected operations, however, boats have still been deployed in the Ponto do Ouro area.

“At this stage, there have been no positive sightings or new information to report,” she said.

Gounden added that people in Kosi Bay and Sodwana are assisting by remaining vigilant, while beach patrols continue daily in identified areas.

Police are also searching alongside role-players in the hope of bringing closure to the family.

“We remain hopeful and respectfully appeal to pilots, divers, beachgoers, fishermen and all marine and coastal operators to stay alert from Ponto do Ouro to the South African border [including Kosi Bay and Sodwana], as well as north of Ponto do Ouro. The family and search teams extend sincere gratitude to all communities, volunteers and authorities for their continued support during this difficult time,” she said.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Gounden on 074 712 5855.
