Shoes and handbags were among the goods seized by the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit this week.

The police seized counterfeit goods valued at nearly R600 000 during joint operations in Johannesburg and Randfontein, reports the Randfontein Herald.

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed yesterday that a multi-disciplinary operation took place in Randfontein, involving the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, Brand Protectors and Randfontein Firearms Liquor and Second Hand Goods Control.

The team confiscated counterfeit consumables, shoes and handbags worth an estimated R402 305.

On Monday, the counterfeit unit and Brand Protectors conducted a separate operation in Alexandra, visiting three shops and seizing counterfeit consumables, shoes and handbags valued at an estimated R195 150.

Sibeko said the operations are done to protect consumers and businesses and combat counterfeit goods.
