Nearly R600k in fake goods seized across Randfontein, Johannesburg

Police and partners bust nearly R600 000 in counterfeit goods across Randfontein and Johannesburg.

The police seized counterfeit goods valued at nearly R600 000 during joint operations in Johannesburg and Randfontein.

Police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko confirmed on January 29 that a multi-disciplinary operation took place in Randfontein, involving the Gauteng Counterfeit Unit, Brand Protectors and Randfontein Firearms Liquor and Second Hand Goods Control (FLASH). The team confiscated counterfeit consumables, shoes and handbags worth an estimated R402 305.

Earlier, on January 26, the counterfeit unit and Brand Protectors conducted a separate operation in Alexandra, visiting three shops and seizing counterfeit consumables, shoes and handbags valued at an estimated R195 150.

“These operations demonstrate the unit’s commitment to combating counterfeit goods and protecting consumers and businesses,” Sibeko concluded.
