Strawberry, lemon and mint sangria
This sangria works beautifully with cheese boards, grilled prawns, tapas, roast chicken, charcuterie platters and fresh summer salads.
If there is one drink designed for sharing, it’s sangria. Sangria originated in Spain and Portugal, where wine was often mixed with fruit and spirits to create something refreshing and easy to drink. Every family seems to have their own version. Some use red wine. Others swear by white. There are also recipes with peaches, apples, oranges and berries. This version is built around strawberries, lemon and mint. A dry white wine keeps everything crisp, while berry vodka adds a little extra fruit flavour without making it overly sweet.
Ingredients
- 360 ml dry white wine
- 225 ml berry-flavoured vodka
- 90 ml fresh lemon juice
- 45 ml simple syrup
- 500 ml sliced strawberries
- Mint sprigs
- Lemon slices
- Ice
Brown sugar variation: Replace the simple syrup with 30 ml soft brown sugar.
Method
- Combine the wine, vodka, lemon juice and syrup in a large jug.
- Add the strawberries and stir.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight.
- Fill glasses with ice.
- Pour over the sangria and fruit.
- Garnish with mint and lemon slices.
