An alleged hitman linked to the assassination of Marius van der Merwe, the whistle-blower known as ‘Witness D’ at the Madlanga Commission, is expected to appear in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Van der Merwe was gunned down outside his home in Brakpan in December, after providing testimony regarding the alleged torture and murder of a man by EMPD officers in 2022.

According to the Brakpan Herald, a specialised police task team established to investigate cases emanating from the commission apprehended the suspect in Johannesburg yesterday after obtaining ‘overwhelming evidence’.

Following the arrest, police carried out search-and-seizure operations at several addresses linked to the suspect. Officers also seized a vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the murder.
