Qwaqwa man to appear in court for rape and attempted rape charges
A Free State man is set to face charges following sexual assault allegations involving his stepdaughters, aged 14 and 18.
A 42-year-old man from Tseseng Village in Qwaqwa is expected to appear in the Tseseng Magistrate’s Court today, facing charges of rape and attempted rape.
Bloemfontein Courant reports that, according to Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring, the allegations stem from incidents reported by the suspect’s stepdaughters, aged 14 and 18.
Incidents
It is alleged that the older daughter (18) reported an incident that took place in 2022, which was later disclosed to a guardian. Police have since opened a case of rape for investigation.
In a separate incident reported in April, the younger daughter (14) alleged that the suspect attempted to force himself on her. A case of attempted rape has been opened.
Police investigation and arrest
Police confirmed that the suspect handed himself over after becoming aware that authorities were looking for him. He remains in custody and is set to appear in court, where the matter will proceed through the legal process.
