Recruitment scam targets job seekers at Middelburg old age home
Job seekers are being targeted in a scam using the name of a Mpumalanga care home, with victims asked to pay R400 for fake interviews.
A recruitment scam has hit St Joseph’s Home for the Aged in Middelburg.
Witbank News reports an individual, posing as a representative of the home, is advertising false employment opportunities with a promised salary of R7 000 per month.
The person, reportedly a woman, though this may be misrepresented, claims to be based in eMalahleni and is conducting so-called ‘interviews’ telephonically.
“Victims are consistently instructed to pay R400 via Boxer Cash Send as part of the application process. This demand is fraudulent,” says St Joseph’s Home for the Aged secretary Michelle Pieterse.
Official hiring processes clarified
She adds that St Joseph’s Home for the Aged upholds the highest standards of care for its residents.
All staff members are professionally trained and undergo specific, ongoing training to ensure quality service, safety and dignity for those in their care.
Recruitment and hiring processes are conducted with strict professionalism and integrity. All legitimate vacancies are advertised exclusively through the organisation’s official website and verified Facebook page.
“Any job postings appearing on other platforms should be treated as fraudulent,” Pieterse warns.
Community urged to remain vigilant
To date, at least eight individuals have approached the home after falling victim to this scam, many left distressed after their expectations were exploited.
The community is urged to remain vigilant. If you encounter suspicious job advertisements claiming to be associated with St Joseph’s Home for the Aged, please regard them as a scam.
If in doubt, contact the home directly through its official channels before engaging with any job offer.
