Grandson jailed for killing Murraysburg man

A man who stabbed his grandfather 22 times during a deadly attack in the Western Cape has been sentenced for the murder.

The regional court in Murraysburg sentenced a 27-year-old murder accused, Elgee de Wee, to 20 years’ imprisonment on Tuesday (June 9), reports Graff-Reinet Advertiser.

De Wee was accused of murdering his grandfather in September 2024.

According to Warrant Officer Christopher Spies, SAPS spokesperson for the Southern Cape, members of the Murraysburg police responded to an alleged murder scene in Klip Street, Murraysburg on September 3, 2024. 

Upon arrival, the members found the 66-year-old victim, Moos Nxokela, with multiple stab wounds.

The investigation revealed that the victim’s grandson entered his residence and stabbed him with a knife before fleeing the scene. 

The victim sustained 22 stab wounds and was declared dead at the scene by paramedics.

The suspect was tracked down and arrested. 

At the time of his arrest, police also found the knife used in the killing.

Western Cape police management lauded the efforts of members attached to the Murraysburg police, which resulted in the lengthy incarceration of De Wee for this horrific crime.
